Did you know???
The first frozen meals were introduced in 1945 for use in Airplanes. Maxson Food systmes, Inc.
These were considered to be the first full meals in frozen form: however, they were never sold at retail for the public and only used by military and civilian airlines to heat up on the plane and serve. Each frozen meal was packaged on a divided plate know as a "StratoPlate" with each portion of the meal in its own section.Frozen meals became widespread to consumers in 1954, when Gilbert and Clarke SWANSON introduced "TV Dinners" of turkey, sweet potatoes, peas, and stuffing. They sold 10 million dinners in the first year. I was born a year earlier and during my youth had the pleasure of dining with them when my father was at work. I think that's were I learned to eat peas. We didn't have a microwave then and the oven made them eatable and NOT MUSHY! Then someone introduced pears and other fruit. The fruit was always burnt but these dinners were a staple in our home for 2 nights a week. Mmmmm!
