An airplane's cabin lights are dimmed before landing at night so passengers eyes can adjust in case of evacuation
I'll bet you didn't know this. It is a good reason to let your eyes adjust in case of emergency. You might only have a few seconds to grab the oxygen and help your children or another passenger. It also gives you some time to WAKE UP! I'm always sleeping and need time to open my eyes.'
