Magnets can be a very useful tool in the shop, especially when trying to
machine items like washers. Place the washer on the magnet, then place
both the magnet and washer on the front of the chuck jaws and tighten on
the washer. Your piece is not only centered, but also square to the
centerline of the chuck (granted the magnet has flat sides). A pair of
2" round magnets can be purchased from Harbor Freight for just a couple
dollars, but their usefulness is near priceless.
